“Why there is no Ferrari motorcycle?” This is the question that Israeli designer Amir Glinik asked himself then he decided to create one. You can see from the pictures that the motorcycle is simply astonishing and you know that you want one.

The Ferrari Motorcycle will feature a Ferrari V4 Integrated Drive Unit, 1953 handlebars and rear suspensions, brakes with dual sculpted calipers, and a F16-inspired throttle quadrant. The motorcycle will be managed via a full-touchscreen and “the heart of the controlling system is based on a Ferrari engine management computer” which means that it should be powerful and safe in the same time.

“Vintage and modern Ferrari projects influence my design. It’s a mix of what I find to be the best Ferrari lines with the latest technology I could think of in terms of engine, gear and driving management. Preserving Ferrari lines and history, the aim is to create a bike with normal dimensions using existing Ferrari technology; to take the ease of service as a factor while thinking about low profile and CG. To produce a practical machine and not in any way a ‘Star Wars’ future ride,” said designer

For the moment there is no word on pricing and availability, however, I think that the Ferrari Motorcycle will be ready in a few years at a price that only a few can afford.

The motorcycle nuts at make an interesting observation about their Warthog bike, inspired by the ground-attack fighter that shares the same nickname: "Obviously the first thing that grabs one's attention is the 800-watt audio system." The Japanese really have a way of playing around with devices and electronic gadgets that nearly baffles you and I suppose once in a while brings about a revolution in both designing and style. Designs from Japan have brought out an electric bike that looks like anything but a bike and seems to be a collection of pulleys, and plenty of chains. One surely hopes that there’s something special, performance wise, in this crazy looking bike. So what’s this bike called?

I have totally no clue so far and the moment we get to know, we will pass on the word. It surely must be named in some Samurai fashion. It is an electric, belt driven fee first bike and apparently looks care about it is built just for one person. It is probably the Japanese version of the Royal or the Harley-Davidson. It seems very low and the driver might struggle to even get a good look at the traffic at times.

Also, one need not put too much effort in to driving this thing, or so it seems. I have not seen many bikes with such a comfortable seating and such laid back driving conditions. It looks like a bike and I suppose the coloring would go fine with many cop forces across the world. So, until we get more on it (and I hope we do), that’s all we know about the bike. One might find faults with the design, but the innovation is surely cool.

Bike enthusiasts from different corners of India have been importing high-performance bikes to satiate their zeal for high-speed biking. Notwithstanding their astronomical price tags, these cult machines do have a fair number of admirers in India.

Post Dhoom, the Bollywood potboiler which featured John Abraham in a Suzuki Hayabusa, this small community of high-power bike aficionados is growing with every passing day. To import a brand new bike, one will have to pay 105 percent duty and 100 percent on a used one. The Exim Policy 2001 lifted quantitative restrictions on the import of second-hand vehicles.

The import of vehicles shall be subject to the following guidelines of the Government of India:

1. (I) A new imported vehicle shall mean a vehicle that: -

(a) has not been manufactured/assembled in India; and
(b) has not been sold, leased or loaned prior to importation into India; or
(c) has not been registered for use in any country according to the laws of that country, prior to importation into India.

(II) The import of new vehicles shall be subject to the following conditions:
(a) The new vehicle shall-
(i) have a speedometer indicating the speed in km / h;
(ii) have right hand steering, and controls (applicable on vehicles other than two and three wheelers);
(iii) have photometry of the headlamps to suit "keep-left" traffic; and
(iv) be imported from the country of manufacture.

(b) In addition, the new vehicle shall conform to the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the rules made thereunder, as applicable, on the date of import.

(c) The import of new vehicles shall be permitted only through the Customs port at Nhava Sheva (Mumbai), Calcutta and Chennai.

2. (I) A second hand or used vehicle shall mean a vehicle that :-

(a) has been sold, leased or loaned prior to importation into India; or
(b) has been registered for use in any country according to the laws of that country, prior to importation into India;

(II). The import of second had or used vehicles shall be subject to the following conditions:-
(a) The second hand or used vehicle shall not be older than three years from the date of manufacture;
(b) The second hand or used vehicle shall:

(i) have right hand steering, and controls (applicable on vehicles other than two and three wheelers);
(ii) have a speedometer indicating the speed km / h; and
(iii) have photometry of the headlamps to suit "keep left" traffic.

(c) In addition, the second hand or used vehicle shall conform to the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and the rules made thereunder, as applicable, on the date of import.

(d) Import of second hand vehicles shall be allowed only through the customs port at Mumbai.

(e) The second hand or used vehicles imported into India should have a minimum roadworthiness for a period of 5 years from the date of importation into India with assurance for providing service facilities within the country during the five year period. For this purpose, the importer shall, at the time of importation, submit a declaration indicating the period of roadworthiness in respect of every individual vehicle being imported, supported by a certificate issued by any of the testing agencies, which the Central Government may notify in this regard.

(f) The vehicle has to be submitted for testing to Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (VRDE), Ahmednagar, of the Ministry of Defence or the Automotive Research Association of India, Pune or the Central Farm and Machinery Training and Testing Institute, Budni, Madhya Pradesh, and such other agencies as may be specified by the Central Government, for granting a certificate by that agency as to the compliance of the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and any rules made thereunder.

Yes, we have got the details and specifications of the upcoming high performance Apache bike. Although there were speculations that the next high capacity Apache would be powered by a 220cc mill, the truth is far from it. TVS Motors has plonked in a single cylinder, 4-stroke 250cc mill which produces 30bhp at 9500rpm and 2.2kgm at 8000rpm leading to a top speed of 150 kmph. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and the bike weighs just 140kgs with 16 liters of fuel capacity. The front suspension uses telescopic forks whereas at the rear monoshock rectangular swingarm does the job. The front gets 290mm discs and the rear discs are 220mm (ABS will be optional). Front tires are 100/80 x 17 whereas the rear tyres are 130/70 x 17 bolted onto 6-spoke alloy wheels. Price is expected to be close to Rs. 1,20,000/- and the launch will happen next month.

Hero Honda recently introduced the all-new Splendor NXG, which is expected to strengthen its leadership in the deluxe segment. Unveiling the bike in New Delhi, chairman, Brijmohan Lall said, “The Splendor is a symbol of trust and reliability. Its equity is certainly going to get better with this bike.”

The Splendor brand, which includes the Splendor Plus and Super Splendor, accounts for a nearly third of all motorcycles sold by the company. Sales exceed a million units annually, making it the largest selling motorcycle in the world. It has already sold a cumulative 8.5 million units since its launch in 1994.

CEO and managing director of Hero Honda, Pawan Munjal termed the launch “a landmark event in Indian two-wheeler history”. “This not only elevates the largest-selling brand to the next generation, but also offers a unique package of styling and features,” he said.

The Splendor NXG, which is being sold as a new bike and not a variant of the brand, comes with a new engine that delivers marginally more powerful. Company officials say that it develops better power and torque at lower engine rpm. The NXG is priced Rs 41,990 for the cast alloy wheels version, while the spoke version is priced at Rs 40,990.

This places it just Rs 1,000 over the Splendor Plus, and vice-president, marketing & sales, Anil Dua was quick to downplay the possibility of cannibalisation of sales. “The market has been clocking double-digit growth, and we expect this to continue for some time to come. Overall sales penetration is also low and we expect the new bike to widen the appeal of the Splendor to a whole new generation of buyers,” he said.

He added that with the NXG, Hero Honda is poised to further consolidate its 50 percent market share in the motorcycle segment. The NXG is the eighth new model/variant the company has launched in 2006-07.
